A simple, dignified way to say farewell
to your loved one, with no fuss.

Arrange a direct cremation with your local, family-run funeral home.

More families are choosing direct cremation as an alternative to a traditional bespoke

funeral. An affordable and modern approach, direct cremations usually involve an

unattended cremation without a service, minister or flowers.

At No Fuss Funerals, we recognise that families want time to say goodbye,

even without ceremony. That’s why we offer three services including limited attendance,

early morning direct cremations. You have the flexibility to celebrate your loved one’s life

in your own way, and to arrange a personalised memorial at a time that feels right for you.

No Fuss Funerals is an established family-run funeral home,

with over 60 years’ experience in the funeral industry.

Our direct cremation options allow you to choose simplicity without compromising dignity.

How it works...

A simple and straightforward approach to cremation, without the fuss of a traditional attended funeral service. Please refer to the flow chart below for information on the first steps following a death.

Hospital Death

The bereavement team will liaise with the Attending Doctor and Medical Examiner to provide the paperwork required for you to register the death. They will also liaise with the Coroner if required.

The deceased will rest in the Hospital mortuary until the paperwork has been completed.

We will then be able to move the deceased into our care prior to the No Fuss Funeral taking place.

When to call us

Once you have been told by the Medical Examiners or the Coroner's Office that you can proceed to register the death, you can contact us to instruct us to look after the cremation and to move the deceased into our care.

We will then guide you through the next steps as and how they apply.

Community Death (private house / nursing home etc)

At the time of death, someone suitably qualified needs to verify that death has occurred. If the death is expected, you can contact the persons GP or out of hours service via 101. Once verified we can attend to move the deceased directly into our care.

If the death is unexpected, you should call 999 and the Ambulance service will instruct the Coroner's service to act. The deceased will be moved to the local Coroner's mortuary until their enquiries are completed.

When to call us

Once an expected death has been verified, you can contact us any time on 01803 882385 to attend and move the deceased into our care.

If the Ambulance has attended and instructed the Coroner's team to move the deceased, you can contact us the next working day as we are not required immediately.

The next steps...

We will then guide your through how to register a death, including how to get death certificates for banks and insurances, how to cancel state benefits and how to notify various government departments through the "Tell Us Once" service.

Once you have completed our required paperwork and completed the statutory forms and made the payment, we will be able to book the cremation to take place at a local crematorium at the earliest available opportunity.

FAQ's

What makes No Fuss Funerals different to other providers?

We are a local family run company, not a large national chain. Unlike many national providers we still look after the deceased in our own specialist premises with the same care and respect that we provide for all deceased persons in our care.

How much is a No Fuss Funeral?

A No Fuss Funeral is £1,395 which includes our professional fees, moving the deceased into our care, simple cremation coffin, all staff and vehicles as required and the no service cremation fee.

Where does the cremation take place?

Unlike many national options like Pure Cremation, a No Fuss Funeral cremation takes place at either Torquay, Exeter & Devon or East Devon Crematorium. The venue, date and time of the cremation is at our discretion.

What happens to the ashes?

After the cremation, the ashes can be scattered at the Crematorium or returned into our care for you to take away. We are also able to offer a range of memorial jewellery and advise on other memorial ideas such as burial of ashes or scattering of ashes.

When do I have to pay?

In line with other 'no service' cremation providers, we do request full payment prior to the cremation. You can reclaim this from the deceased's estate or bank quite easily and we can assist you in this regard. Items yet to be decided on such as cremation jewellery or urns etc can be paid for separately.

Can I see the deceased before the cremation?

Our professional service includes the option to view the deceased prior to the cremation by appointment within our normal office hours of 9am-5pm mon-fri.

Can I attend the cremation?

No. We book a specific option with the crematorium for no attendance. This is usually an early or late time where the coffin is taken into the Chapel with no formal service or any attendance. The Crematoriums are very strict in this regard and any attendance would be denied.

If you wish to hold a small gathering, you may wish to consider instructing our full level of service through Stockman & Loram and utilising our own private Service Chapels. This allows you to hold a gathering but still benefit from the lower cost option of a no service cremation.
